Snowstorm Could Dump A Half-Foot Of Snow On The Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Get your shovels and snowblowers ready. Winter is heading for Minnesota early this week, with the Twin Cities metro looking to get up to a half-foot of wet, heavy snow.

WCCO Forecaster Kylie Bearse says the flakes will start falling early Monday morning in southern Minnesota. The clouds will then move up through the state, reaching the metro area around 1 p.m.

The afternoon commute looks to be messy, as the snow isn't expected to let up until Tuesday.

So which communities will get the most accumulation?

"Right now, a lot of the models have really favored the south and central part of the state," Bearse said.

The area from Marshall to Mankato could see 6 to 10 inches of snow. In the metro, the totals look to be between 3 to 6 inches.

"I do think we'll be on the higher end of that in the Twin Cities," Bearse said.

In northern Minnesota, communities from Moorhead to Duluth could see 3 to 6 inches of snow. North of those communities, however, there'll just be a dusting.

After the snow, a warm-up is coming. With highs near 40, there's a chance to see melting by the end of the week.
