Snowmobiler, 46, Killed In Crash Near Menahga

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating after a snowmobile driver was killed in a crash with a passenger car Wednesday morning.

According to the state patrol, the incident occurred just after 7 a.m. on Highway 71 south Menahga.

The state patrol says the snowmobiler was traveling southbound in the ditch on the northbound side of Highway 71 when the rider tried to climb the ditch to get on the shoulder. The snowmobiler ended up going into the northbound lane and was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The snowmobiler, identified as 46-year-old Jesse Jones of Menahga, was killed in the crash. He was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the other vehicle, which was a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville, was not injured in the incident.

Road conditions were dry at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be factor, the state patrol said.
