Sheriff: Wisconsin Man, 58, Drowns In Lake Vermilion

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials in northern Minnesota say a 58-year-old Wisconsin man drowned Monday night in Lake Vermilion.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says it responded to a water emergency shortly after 8 p.m. on the Tower side of the lake in Greenwood Township.

Boaters had seen Richard Dziewit, of Greendale, Wisconsin, treading water in the lake with his boat running and circling around him.

The boaters were able to gain control of Dziewit's boat, but he sank under the water.

Officials say his body was recovered more than two hours later.

It was not clear if Dziewit was wearing a life jacket.

The drowning remains under investigation.
