Sheriff: Speed & Alcohol May Be Factor In Aitkin Co. Snowmobile Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Aitkin County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 26-year-old Lino Lakes man was injured in a serious snowmobile crash Friday evening.

According to Aitkin County Sheriff Scott Turner, Andrew James Johnson was riding a snowbile on Gun Lake In Fleming Township northeast of Aitkin prior to the accident. He was operating a 1995 Polaris 700 SP on the lake and when he exited the lake, he was thrown from the snowmobile.

Johnson was then taken by private vehicle to an Aitkin hospital. He was later transported by ambulance to the North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Turner says that speed and alcohol may be a factor in the crash. Johnson was not wearing a helmet.
