Sheriff: Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Train In Coon Rapids

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 31-year-old man was killed Sunday after being hit by a train in Coon Rapids, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said the accident happened just after 1:30 p.m. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office received a report of an incident involving a pedestrian and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train about a quarter mile west of Hanson Boulevard NW.

A pedestrian was struck and killed. A spokesperson for BNSF said the train was headed westbound at the time of the crash. The pedestrian, a 31-year-old Coon Rapids man, was standing on the tracks and was in an area that is not designated as a place for pedestrians to cross.

The incident is under investigation. The name of the pedestrian has not been released.
