Sheriff: Man, 2 Dogs Rescued From Kandiyohi County Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 64-year-old man and his two dogs had to be rescued from a lake in rural Kandiyohi County on Monday after his vehicle was trapped in the water, authorities say.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office responded at about 11:34 a.m. to Bass Lake in Green Lake Township on a report that a vehicle had gone into the lake from access off 82nd Ave. NE, and at least one person was still inside. When officers arrived, a Chevy Trailblazer was about 20 feet from shore and submerged to the bottom of the windows.

Officers could see the driver still inside, and he was trapped in the vehicle. A person visiting the area and a sheriff's deputy took a boat out to the vehicle and determined that the 64-year-old man from rural Atwater was OK. Members of the Spicer Fire Department were able to get the driver and his two dogs to shore safely.

The man told authorities that he lost control of his vehicle on the steep boat access and went into the lake.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Spicer and New London Fire Departments, Kandiyohi County Rescue and Atwater and Willmar Ambulance.
