Sheriff: Elderly Woman Rescued After House Fire In Oak Grove

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Allina paramedics and a sheriff's deputy in Anoka County are being called heroes after an elderly woman was rescued from a house fire in the north Twin Cities metro on Monday.

Authorities were called at about 6:51 p.m. to a residence on the 196th block of Ibis Street in Oak Grove on a report of a house fire and that an elderly woman was still inside. Two Allina paramedics were the first to arrive on scene and entered the burning home, which had heavy smoke and fire.

The paramedics found the woman in the upstairs of the home and a short time later, an Anoka County sheriff's deputy arrived on scene. He entered the home through a second level doorway and assisted in getting the woman out of the home. The victim could not move on her own.

She was rescued from the fire and taken to Mercy Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The Oak Grove Fire Department was able to put the fire out, but a majority of the home was destroyed.

Authorities said had the two paramedics and the sheriff's deputy not acted like they did, the woman likely would've died in the fire.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the cause of the fire.
