Sheriff: Child Dies In Lake Minnetonka Medical Emergency

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 7-year-old girl died Sunday afternoon after a medical emergency on Lake Minnetonka, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded at about 4:55 p.m. to Wayzata Bay on Lake Minnetonka for a medical emergency. A 911 caller reported that a juvenile female was unresponsive.

When officers arrived, an 8-year-old girl was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The nature of the medical emergency was not released.

What led up to the incident is under investigation. The Hennepin County Medical Center will release the name of the girl as well as her cause of death. Police departments from Plymouth and Orono, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Wayzata Police and Fire Departments assisted the sheriff's office at the scene.
