Sheriff: Brainerd Man Punches Deputy During Dog Dispute

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 63-year-old Brainerd man is in custody after punching a deputy over an argument about a dog loose in a chicken pen, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.

Larry Walter Prahm is charged with fourth-degree assault, fleeing a peace officer, terroristic threats and obstructing the legal process after the Monday night incident.

A deputy reported to a call about a dog that had entered a man's chicken pen and was killing his birds. The deputy retrieved the dog and contacted Prahm from information found on the dog's collar.

Prahm, whose son owns the dog, arrived soon after and became confrontational with the deputy. He allegedly pushed and then punched the deputy in the face before fleeing the scene.

Deputies then pursued Prahm to his home on Gilbert Trail in Brainerd. Prahm went inside and could be seen loading a firearm. Deputies secured the area and called in Crow Wing County's tactical and negotiation teams. Prahm surrendered soon after the teams arrived.

He is being held at the Crow Wing County Jail.
