Sheriff: 3 Rescued After ATV Breaks Through Ice On North Metro Lake

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Ramsey Country Water Patrol had to rescue three people on Sunday after their ATV broke through thin ice on a lake.

It happened on Bald Eagle Lake, which is just north of White Bear Lake. According to sheriff's deputies, the fisherman accidentally drove their ATV onto one inch of ice.

They went through, but were in an ATV that was able to float. The Ramsey County Water Patrol went out on an airboat and broke the ice to get them out. The sheriff's office says the accident serves as a reminder to use caution when going out on area lakes.

Authorities say ice conditions still vary and the ice may not be thick enough for all activities.
