Sheriff: 3 Escape Sinking Vehicle In Crow Wing Co. Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl says three people needed to escape a vehicle after it broke through the ice on Pelican Lake Thursday morning.

According to Dahl, at 7:10 a.m., the vehicle broke through the ice southwest of Gooseberry Island. The three occupants escaped without injury before the vehicle sank in 18 feet of water.

Ice conditions can change daily, Dahl said, so people should use caution when driving on the lakes -- even when there are well-established roads.
