Sheriff: 2 Men Overcome By Gas Die In Wis. Manure Pit

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office says two men died after they tried retrieving a piece of equipment that fell into a manure pit.

On Thursday at 5:17 p.m., the sheriff's office received a report of two men falling into a manure pit (or tank) at a family farm in Woodmohr, Wisconsin, which is south of Bloomer, Wisconsin.

When deputies arrived on scene, they learned the two men were trying to retrieve the equipment, but were overcome by the manure gas and became unresponsive.

Emergency responders were able to pull the men from the manure pit, but efforts to revive the victims were unsuccessful.

The victims' identities have not been released.
