Sheriff: 2 Dead, 1 Critical In Monticello Head-On Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people were killed and another is in critical condition after a head-on crash northwest of the Twin Cities on Sunday.

The Wright County Sheriff's Office was called to a crash involving multiple vehicles and injuries at about 5:17 p.m. on County Road 39 NE at 107th St. NE in Monticello. When officers arrived, a Chrysler 300 and a Ford Super Duty pick-up truck pulling a horse trailer collided head-on at a curve at the intersection.

Both people inside the Chrysler were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck, a 48-year-old from Monticello, was extricated from her vehicle and airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center, where she is in critical condition.

The victims in the Chrysler were identified as 37-year-old Christopher Hazel and 65 year old Donna Swenson, both of Annandale. What led up to the crash is under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff's Office. Monticello Fire and Rescue provided assistance at the scene.
