Sheriff: 1 Dead In Chisago County Motorcycle Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A motorcyclist died Thursday after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing on a road north of North Branch, according to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to a report of a motorcycle down at about 1:11 p.m. on Sunrise Road east of Harder Ave. in N. Sunrise Township near the city of Harris. The caller told police they found the motorcyclist off the roadway.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male down at the scene and he was pronounced dead. Authorities say the crash happened on a two-lane paved country road with a posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour. The roadway had a cautionary speed limit of 40 where there was a sharp curve and a downhill grade. Authorities say it appears the motorcyclist lost control at the curve and hit a guard rail.

The driver of the motorcycle was the lone occupant and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Authorities said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, but it's not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor.

The name of the victim has not been released. The crash remains under investigation by the Chisago County Sheriff's Office. They were assisted at the scene by the North Branch Police Department.
