Sheriff: 1 Dead After Being Buried In Construction Site

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man is dead after being buried underground when the sides of a trench in a construction area caved in Monday, according to the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Department.

The sheriff's department responded to a construction accident in Lincoln, Minn., just before 3 p.m. Monday. The accident occurred just southwest of the intersection of County Road 30 and 171st Street.

A 28-year-old man who had been working in the trench was buried underground when the sides caved in. Rescue attempts were hindered due to the instability of the area.

The man's body was recovered around 8:15 p.m., the sheriff's department said. The victim's identity has not been released.

The construction project involved connecting two separate drainage ditches via a buried drain pipe. Vortex Drain and Tile, of Grand Forks, N.D., was the company involved.
