MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 72-year-old woman is dead and a 75-year-old man is hospitalized after a house fire in northern Minnesota.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was called to a report of a fire at about 12:50 a.m. Thursday on the 7700 block of Central Avenue in the city of Meadowlands, which is just north of Cloquet. When crews arrived, the residence was filled with smoke and its two occupants were stuck inside.

Fire crews were able to get the two people out before the home was completely destroyed by the fire. They were both taken to a hospital, where the woman later died. She was identified as Karen Gosch. The male, identified as John Stossel, is believed to be in stable condition.

Fire officials said the blaze appears to have started in the kitchen of the home. Crews were still on the scene Thursday morning putting the fire out and investigating.
