Shelter-in-place order issued in part of Nowthen, sheriff's office says

A shelter-in-place order has been lifted and a person is in custody after an incident in Nowthen, Minnesota, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said Friday afternoon.

Residents between 189th Lane and 185th Avenue Northwest on Jasper Street Northwest were asked on Thursday night to shelter in place. The sheriff's office said Friday morning that law enforcement was negotiating with an armed individual who had barricaded themself.

Nowthen officials said the order was lifted around 1:30 p.m.

Fire and smoke appeared to be coming from a home in the area surrounded by law enforcement early on Friday afternoon.

Chopper footage showed several armored vehicles driving around the area on Friday afternoon.
