Service Workers Intend To Strike On Tax Day Over Wages

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group of workers in the fast food, janitorial, and other service industries say they will strike in protest of low wages.

The group, known by the name Fight for $15, said that they are planning to mobilize on Tax Day -- April 15.

A group made up of fast food workers, airport employees, University of Minnesota employees, home healthcare workers and college students (including some from Augsburg) plan to rally at the University of Minnesota at 4:30 p.m. before marching to the McDonald's restaurant in Dinkytown.

The Fight for $15 movement is aiming to stage demonstrations across the country, utilizing college campuses.

Minnesota is currently in a multi-stage increase that will ultimately raise the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour in August 2016.
