Sheriff: Missing Boys In Beltrami County Found Safe

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office says two boys who were reported missing on Saturday have been found and are safe.

Authorities say the two boys, ages 7 and 8, were riding a four-wheeler near the family home on the 1500 block of Smith Rd. NW in Bemidji Saturday afternoon when they disappeared and hadn't been seen or heard from since about 4:30 p.m. The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was notified at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday by a woman identified as Tiffany Sue Smith that her 8-year-old son and his 7-year-old cousin had been missing for about 90 minutes. Family and several neighbors had been searching for the boys with no luck.

Search efforts by several agencies resumed at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Searchers found the four-wheeler caught up in some barbed wire in an old fence near Higgins Road NE. The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office said volunteer searchers found the two boys at 10:30 a.m. on the 4600 block of Higgins Road NE, about seven miles from where they were reported missing.

Authorities say they were found in a hunter's cabin, where they sought refuge to get out of the cold overnight.

They were being checked out by emergency personnel.
