Sheriff: Missing Man's Body Recovered From Gervais Lake

LITTLE CANADA, Minn. (WCCO) -- The search resumed Sunday for a missing swimmer in a Twin Cities lake.

Authorities say two men tried swimming across Gervais Lake Saturday afternoon. One of them reached the shore, the other never made it.

The scene was quiet early Sunday morning, but search and dive teams were back at the lake. By Sunday afternoon, The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office said it had recovered the body of a missing man from the lake.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's office searched the small lake in Little Canada Saturday afternoon. The call for help came in around 2:30 p.m., when that second swimmer realized the other man never made it to shore.

Crews immediately got on the water, but also searched on land with hope that maybe he made it out of the water. Within a couple of hours, the search became a recovery effort.

"We're using high scan radar out there, trying to find areas of interest to be searched more intensely with the divers," Sgt. John Eastham with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities aren't saying much about the missing swimmer other than he's an adult. They also haven't said if alcohol is involved. This is a lake that does not have a life guard on duty.

The beach will be open Sunday, but the public will be kept away from areas where the search is underway.
