Saudi Prince Must Pay 3 Women $130K In Discrimination Suit
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It likely made no major dent in his pocketbook, but a Saudi Arabian prince visiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester learns the hard way that he can't discriminate against women in Minnesota.
Three women limo drivers from Rochester filed a federal lawsuit last fall after they were fired, simply because Prince Abdul-Rahman bin Abdul-Aziz didn't want any women driving his limo, or the limos of his entourage.
"They did all of the things they were asked to do, including be available 24/7, and purchasing a certain uniform, and learning the vehicles," attorney Lisa Stratton said. "But when they showed up the next day, they were all summarily fired."
A federal judge has now awarded $130,000 for mental anguish and loss of wages to each of the three women who sued.
Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving.
