Faith Leaders Pledge To Give Sanctuary To Undocumented Immigrants
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Dozens of faith leaders from several Twin Cities churches are declaring their places of worship as sanctuaries for undocumented immigrants and their families.
More than 30 pastors and other faith leaders stood together inside the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in St. Paul Tuesday, promising to protect immigrants seeking refuge.
The move follows the threat from President-elect Donald Trump that he will deport millions.
"We will open our church doors as a place of sanctuary so that our neighbors can be safe from physical and emotional upheaval and harm," said Pastor James Erlandson of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
The group is preparing in case there is mass deportations, saying they will provide safety, provisions and other support during this difficult time for many immigrants and their families.
