Rush City Student Hospitalized After Collapsing During Gym Class

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A high school student had to be hospitalized after collapsing during physical education class on Tuesday at Rush City High School, according to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities were called to the school at about 1:37 p.m. on a report of an unresponsive 16-year-old male. The student collapsed while outside during a physical education class. When officers arrived, the male was receiving CPR from school staff.

Sheriff's deputies with a defibrillator arrived on scene and administered three shocks to the male. The student was airlifted to Children's Hospital in St. Paul, and authorities said he is in stable condition.

What led up to the male collapsing is under investigation, and his name has not been released.
