Runaway Dog Rescued After Getting Stuck On Rock Wall

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A runaway dog in northern Minnesota found its way home with the help of a construction crew last week after getting stuck on a rock wall.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the dog, a retriever named Hat Trick, tried to descend a netting-covered rock wall in Virginia, near the Highway 53 bridge project.

Workers spotted the 12-year-old girl near the bottom of the rock wall after hearing falling rocks. At first, they thought Hat Trick was a fox.

When they realized it was a dog, they tried to coax her to climb down the rest of the wall, as they'd seen foxes do several times.

When Hat Trick wouldn't budge, a worker volunteered to go up in a man lift to fetch her.

According to the MnDOT Facebook page, Hat Trick jumped right into the basket and was "an obedient guest" the whole ride down.

The dog was wearing a collar with an ID tag. Her owners, who call her "Hatty" for short, arrived within a half hour to pick her up.

It's unknown how exactly Hat Trick got onto the rock wall.
