Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan ISD 196 schools closed Tuesday amid "threats"

Voicemail "threats" lead to closure of large Minnesota school district

Leaders of Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan ISD 196 say all district schools are closed Tuesday "out of an abundance of caution" after "multiple schools received threats."

The Eagan Police Department says it's leading the investigation into "a voicemail containing threats."

"Our investigators are actively working with neighboring law enforcement agencies and the school district to determine the origin and nature of these threats," police said. "At this time, we are unable to confirm the threats as credible, nor have we been able to rule them out entirely."

Police ask for anyone with information on these threats to call 651-675-5700.

The district is also asking employees not to report to work Tuesday.

ISD 196, one of the state's largest districts, oversees more than 30 schools. This situation comes just three months after a 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with similar threats to the district, as well as neighboring Burnsville-Eagan-Savage ISD 191.

Several other Minnesota schools are delaying the start of class Tuesday or have switched to E-learning, as communities continue to dig out from this weekend's snowstorm.
