Rooftop Garden At St. Paul Children's Hospital Offers Healing

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- All week, the WCCO Morning Show is taking you stories above the metro and showing off some of the coolest rooftops in the Twin Cities.

For Thursday, Edward Moody journeyed to a place that surrounds families in beauty during the toughest of times.

The 6,000-square-foot rooftop healing garden at St. Paul Children's Hospital is a place of solace that was almost lost.

"A few years ago, we had a garden. And we created this tower to create new private patient rooms. As a part of that, we had to displace the garden that we had," said Jim Leste with the hospital. "That was upsetting to a lot of folks. They really enjoyed getting outside in downtown St. Paul."

Staffers were concerned as well. Working together, they helped to design the new garden at Children's Hospital along with patients and their families.

"We've seen people get really excited about this and get outside, enjoy it, listen to music, do some work if you're a parent, and really enjoy what the outdoors have to offer," Leste said.

The new garden opened last summer.
