Rod Carew To Throw Out First Pitch At Twins Home Opener
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Twins announced their plans for the 2016 home opener Thursday, and among them is to have Rod Carew throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The Twins will host the Chicago White Sox for a 3:10 p.m. game on April 11 at Target Field, and officials said the game is a sellout. There will be breakfast on the plaza from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and live music both on the balcony overlooking Target Plaza and at the Target Field Station.
The gates to the ballpark open at 1 p.m., with Twins players whose numbers have been retired and some players from the 1991 World Series team. Caroline Smith will perform the National Anthem, and Carew will toss the ceremonial first pitch.
Carew suffered a massive heart attack last September that nearly killed him. He's been waiting and hoping for a heart transplant ever since, but was able to attend both TwinsFest and Spring Training. He now wears a battery back and is hoping to have a new heart in a few months.
