Riverso Named New Coach Of Augsburg Women's Basketball

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Augsburg College has named Ted Riverso the new coach of its women's basketball team.

The Minneapolis school announced the hiring Tuesday.

Riverso served as women's basketball coach at St. Thomas from 1984 to 1999. Most recently, he spent eight seasons as an assistant for the University of Minnesota women's basketball team.

At Augsburg, Riverso fills the vacancy left by the late Bill McKee, who died on Aug. 27 after a battle with kidney cancer. McKee coached the Auggies for four seasons, leading them to their first-ever berth in the MIAC playoffs last season.

In his 15 seasons at St. Thomas, Riverso led the Tommies to five MIAC championships, 14 straight appearances in the NCAA Division III national tournament and the 1991 national title.
