Riders Say Green Line Should Move Faster

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The new green light rail line has been up and running for a month, without any major problems, but some have complained about how long a trip takes.

Currently, it takes about 53 minutes to get from downtown St. Paul to downtown Minneapolis, which is slower than what Metro Transit first predicted.

At a public meeting last night, Mayor Chris Coleman reportedly said he's open to giving the Green Line first dibs at traffic lights at smaller intersections along University Avenue.

While Metro Transit operates the line, St. Paul controls the traffic lights along it.

Coleman said at busier intersections, trains will still have to wait their turn.
