Republican Candidates Spar In 1st Presidential Debate

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Thursday night was the first debate among the top 10 Republican candidates for president.

And on stage in Cleveland, it was all about Donald Trump.

"Our politicians are stupid and the Mexican government is much smarter, much sharper, much more cunning," he said.

It was a very entertaining debate, with the two-hour discussion careening from immigration to ISIS, from El Chapo to Rosie O'Donnell.

Sen. Rand Paul came off as very aggressive, not just with Donald Trump but mixing it up with other candidates as well.

But Trump was the center of attention for most of the night as he faced very tough questions, including one about many comments he has made in the past about women,

"You've called women you don't like, 'fat pigs,' dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals," she asked Trump. "Your Twitter account has several disparaging comments about women's looks. You once told a contestant on 'Celebrity Apprentice' it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees. Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?"

His response: "I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct."

Stay with WCCO Friday morning for continuing coverage of the GOP debate.
