Most Classes At University Of Minnesota Will Be Taught Online This Fall

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota is planning on holding most of its classes online this fall.

According to a university representative, of the university's 8,909 fall classes, about 6,254 will be online/remote -- about 70%. The remaining 2,655 classes will either be in-person or hybrid.

While many classes will be online, the university says about 60.6% of students on the Twin Cities campus will have at least one in-person or "blended" class.

However, the university says the numbers are not final and will continue to fluctuate over the summer.

Due to physical distancing guidelines, classroom capacities are about 25% of the previously available classroom space.

Minnesota will have four primary formats for fall classes: in-person, remote, online and blended learning. You can read more on the definitions of these here.

Meanwhile, state officials are planning on giving an update on how public schools will look this fall. A decision is expected Thursday.
