Report: Trader Joe's Coming To Downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Downtown Minneapolis residents and workers with a fondness for Trader Joe's should take note. The grocery store will reportedly open a location along Washington Avenue.

According to the Mill City Times, an agreement has been reached that will allow for the project to go forward in Thresher Square.

The block currently includes the Advance Thresher building, as well as the Old Spaghetti Factory.

The Mill City Times says that the project will also include mixed-use residential and commercial property, and will include a skyway link to the parking ramp for the forthcoming Vikings stadium.

However, a spokesperson for Trader Joe's told WCCO that the possibility of "an additional Minneapolis location is not in our two year plan at this time." And when asked for clarification, a representative of Sherman Associates said, "There is a tremendous amount of interest in our redevelopment efforts in the Mill District from several prospective tenants; however, we cannot comment on any specifics at this time."

There are currently seven Trader Joe's locations in the Twin Cities. The closest to downtown Minneapolis at the moment is the one off Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park.
