Olmsted Co. Sheriff's Dept. Employee Stabbed Multiple Times

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An Olmsted County Sheriff's Department employee has been released from the hospital after being stabbed at his desk several times Monday afternoon.

According to KIMT in Rochester, the victim is 50-year-old Rick Freshwater, who works as an IT specialist assigned to the sheriff's department.

He reportedly was able to radio in for help just after 5 p.m., despite being stabbed several times and losing a lot of blood.

The stabbing occurred in the county building at 1421 Third Ave. SE in Rochester.

KIMT says Freshwater, who suffered wounds to his extremities, was not able to get a good view of the suspect.

Police say they do not know the motive or if it is random yet, but it does not appear to have been a robbery or anything of that nature.

They want to talk to people who were in the busy area of Third Avenue at about 5 p.m. No witnesses have come forward so far.
