Man Dies After Struggle With Officers In Rochester

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man died Wednesday night in southern Minnesota after a struggle with police.

According to Rochester police, a "physical struggle" broke out in the parking lot of a Rochester area Cub Foods immediately after a traffic stop.

According to KIMT-TV, the suspect was an adult male.

The police officer requested back up and an officer arrived to assist in the arrest. After the man was apprehended, officers noticed he wasn't breathing. Life-saving efforts were attempted but not successful.

Police say that a preliminary investigation indicates officers did not use weapons in apprehending the suspect.

Rochester police say officers were wearing body cameras and that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating. The officers involved in the incident have also been placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure.

The deceased man will be identified later by the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office.
