Sheriff: Columbia Heights Man Drowns In Quarry Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 34-year-old Columbia Heights man died Sunday night in a drowning at the Quarry Park and Nature Reserve, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded at about 6:17 p.m. to Quarry No. 11 at the reserve on a report of a missing swimmer. A caller reported someone disappeared underwater while swimming in the middle of the quarry.

Search crews located the swimmer about two hours after he disappeared. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man was identified by authorities as Juan Alberto Morales-Rosas.

Authorities say they do not suspect foul play in the drowning, which appears to be accidental. The Waite Park Police Department and Waite Park Fire Department assisted the Stearns County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
