Pumpkin Chucking Event Raises Money To Help Feed Hungry

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Who knew cleaning up after a holiday could be so much fun?

Middle and high school students from South St. Paul's Youth Task Force organized Saturday's "Pumpkin Chunkin."

The smashed remains were then recycled.

The kids also collected donations for local food shelves.

"This is one of our ways to become active in We Day," an organizer said. "There's a lot of people in the community that have problems with money and getting food."

The Task Force earned their tickets to We Day through a community-wide food drive earlier this year.

They also raised nearly $3,000 dollars for the group Free The Children, which will go toward education and health programs in Sierra Leone.

We Day is Nov. 12 in St. Paul.
