Public Invited To Shakopee Pow Wow

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) — Dancers from across the country will compete at an annual pow wow in Shakopee.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community will hold the event Aug. 15-17 on its reservation.

The pow wow is known by the Dakota word "Wacipi", which translates to "they dance."

Nearly 1,000 dancers will compete in various categories. Youth royalty from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community also will dance at the Wacipi. The young people were chosen to represent their community and the Dakota culture at a pow wow earlier this year.

The public is invited. Wacipi buttons will be available for $5 at the gate.
