Prior Lake Braces For Flooding Ahead Of Rainy Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The rain in the forecast had one community working together Friday to protect their streets and homes.

The water continues to rise in Prior Lake. Streets are flooding and homes are in danger.

The city is providing sandbags and sand to homeowners. Dozens of volunteers came out tonight to do what they can to protect their neighborhood.

"We're sandbagging to try to keep the streets open for the most part, also to protect a couple of houses that are just about to go under," said Zach Reimers, a resident. "And we're just trying to sandbag at the end of the cul-de-sac, which is now part of the lake."

Long-time residents say they haven't seen flooding this bad since 1983.

The city manager says offices will remain open Saturday so homeowners can call for more sandbags, if needed.
