Prince Invites Journalists To Paisley Park Studios

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Prince had a gathering at his Paisley Park Studios but he didn't perform — he wanted to talk promotion and business.

He invited journalists attending the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Minneapolis to a four-hour dance party on Saturday.

National Public Radio reports he also took 10 journalists aside to promote his new alliance with Jay Z and the rap star's new music streaming service, Tidal.

He told them typical record company contracts turn artists into indentured servants with little control over their music. He talked about how his deal with Jay Z gave him the freedom to collaborate with other artists on songs which might appear elsewhere.

Prince battled with his label Warner Bros. to win the rights to his collection of hits in 2014.
