Future Of 'Prince Act' Looks Bleak As Session's End Approaches
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A bill inspired by the aftermath of Prince's death looks like it will be abandoned at the State Capitol in the final days of the 2016 legislative session.
The bill, which was given the nickname the "Prince Act," sought to copyright images and likenesses of famous people, artists and their works -- and allow them to sue.
Minnesota Senator Bobby Joe Champion was inspired to author the bill after seeing T-shirts and products related to the late music icon being sold at memorial events in the wake of his passing.
With just four days left in the session, two other popular bills look destined for the chopping block: one dedicated to giving workers paid family leave, and one that would give tax breaks to assist the building of the new Minnesota United soccer stadium in St. Paul.
