Xcel: Nearly 15K Customers Without Power In Metro

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Thousands in the metro may be without power during one of the hottest stretches of weather this summer.

Just after 8 a.m., Xcel Energy Center reported that just under 15,000 customers in the metro were without power.

Across the state, and into western Wisconsin, just over 35,000 were without power.

This comes after storms ravaged northern and central Minnesota, bringing winds as strong as 80 mph and heavy rains.

It also occurs as the heat index across the state is expected to soar into the triple digits.

Much of Minnesota is under an excessive heat warning as temps are forecasted to be in the high 90s, with a heat index pushing 115 degrees in some parts.
