Valleyfair reopens Sunday after power outage forced early closure Saturday

Valleyfair back up and running after Saturday power outage

SHAKOPEE, Minn. -- A power outage Saturday evening in Shakopee impacted a popular metro amusement park, but officials say they're planning to reopen for business Sunday morning.

Valleyfair confirmed to WCCO the power outage at the park around 8:20 p.m. The Scott County Sheriff's Office also confirmed the power outage and said the park closed for the night.

WCCO confirmed with ticket agents that the power has been restored at the park, and it will reopen at 10 a.m., as scheduled.

"At 8 p.m. Valleyfair had a power outage affecting park operations. Guests were quickly and safely evacuated from the rides and the park closed for the remainder of the evening," a Valleyfair PR representative said. "Guests who came to the park on July 1 will have their ticket validity extended through Labor Day."

There is still no word on what caused the power to go out Saturday.
