Popular Twin Cities Lakes Get Mixed Report Card

MINNETONKA, Minn. (AP) -- An annual report card gives mixed grades to some of the most popular Twin Cities lakes.

The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District sprawls over 181 square miles from the far western suburbs to the Mississippi River. Its water quality grades for Lake Minnetonka for 2013 show a slight improvement from 2012, ranging from A's for several bays to a D for Stubb's Bay.

In the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, Lake Calhoun has gotten straight A's since 2008. Lake Harriet got it second straight A-minus. Lake of the Isles improved from a C to a C-plus. Cedar Lake slipped from a B-plus to a C-plus. Hiawatha improved from a C-minus to a B-minus. Nokomis improved from a C-minus to a C-plus.

Lakes that get A's are crystal clear and ideal for recreation.
