DNR To Host Meeting Between Polymet Supporters, Opponents

AURORA, Minn. (AP) — Groups for and against the proposed PolyMet copper-nickel mine are working to turn out their supporters for a public meeting on the project on Tuesday night in Aurora.

The Department of Natural Resources is hosting the meeting at Mesabi East High School to provide an overview of the process PolyMet will need to follow to obtain the necessary permits. Agency and PolyMet staff will be available to answer questions about the permitting process. However, since PolyMet hasn't submitted its permit applications yet, formal public comments won't be taken.

Nevertheless, PolyMet and allied groups are urging supporters to attend to show their backing for the project and the jobs it would create. Environmental groups are doing the same, asking their supporters to question the pollution risks.
