Police: Woman May Have Been Raped In Uptown Parking Ramp

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are trying to figure out what happened to a woman found unconscious and partially clothed in an Uptown parking ramp. Police are investigating it as a possible rape.

A witness called 911 after finding the woman on the second floor of the Calhoun Square ramp around 9 p.m. Sunday night. She was lying on the ground near her running car.

On Monday night, there was a stronger police presence inside the Calhoun Square parking ramp. And police have increased patrols in the area.

"It's nice to see there are some steps being taken," Erin Goblirsch said.

Goblirsch received an alert on her phone about a possible sexual assault in the ramp.

"The alert said there was a young woman getting out of, was found near her car," Goblirsch said.

The alert said the woman did not remember anything. And it's believed she was possibly raped.

Police tell WCCO a witness found the woman in her late-20s lying unconscious near her car Sunday evening.

"The mere fact that she was located in that parking lot, lying on the concrete floor partially clothed, gives us a lot of concern," Inspector Todd Loining with Minneapolis Police's 5th precinct said.

Loining said they don't have a suspect description. Officers got right to work, reviewing surveillance video from the ramp.

"They're talking to staff from the parking lot, neighbors in the area to find out if anybody saw or heard anything," Loining said.

People who park in the ramp say they'll be more vigilant. Police are concerned the person could strike again.

"It's something that we're always evaluating and we're strategizing. We're working with criminal investigators to find out what occurred here, who's responsible for this, is it anybody that we're aware of," Loining said.

Police are talking with the management company about their security plan and if any improvements can be made. WCCO reached out to the company, but have not heard back.

Anyone with information about what might have happened is asked to call the Sex Crimes unit of the Minneapolis Police Department at (612) 673-3081. Anyone with tips can also call police at (612) 692-8477.
