Police: Wisconsin Man Found Lying In Road Dies

ELLSWORTH, Wis. (AP) -- A suspected drunken driver is behind bars in Pierce County after a passenger was ejected from the driver's vehicle and died.

Police say 20-year-old Nicholas Rhiel was found unconscious on a residential road in Ellsworth early Saturday. He was flown to Regions Hospital in the Twin Cities where he died on Sunday.

Police Chief Eric Ladwig said Monday that it's not entirely clear on how Rhiel landed on the road, but it wasn't due to a crash. Police caught up with the driver, who was arrested and jailed.

Ladwig says the investigation is still ongoing.
