Police: Staples Woman Found Dead In Snow

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Motley Police say a Staples woman whose body was discovered frozen outside an apartment building Tuesday wasn't dressed for the weather.

Around 8:45 a.m., officers responding to a deceased body report discovered 36-year-old Anna Eakle's body near the Country Terrance Apartments in Motley. Her body was found lying in a depression in the snow, according to the Morrison County Sheriff's Office.

Motley Police Chief Brian Madison said that Eakle was last seen alive outside -- walking and wearing only a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and tennis shoes -- by a Burlington Northern railway worker at 4:40 a.m. Her body was initially discovered by a woman who had taken her dog out to a pet exercise area at the apartment building.

It was 20 degrees below zero outside when her body was found frozen five blocks from the motel.

Eakle had recently moved to Minnesota from Oklahoma to be with a boyfriend, but had moved out Monday night to a motel because she wanted to be on her own, Madison added.

The sheriff's office and Motley Police are continuing the investigation.
