Police Seek Suspects After Attempted Robbery On U Of M Campus

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities are investigating after a woman was the victim of an assault and attempted robbery early Saturday morning on the University of Minnesota campus.

University of Minnesota police were called at about 1 a.m. Saturday to a report of an attempted robbery that had occurred on Oak Street near the McNamara Alumni Center. When officers arrived, they learned a female victim was walking on the sidewalk on Oak Street when she was approached by three suspects.

Police say the three suspects pushed the woman to the ground, assaulted her and attempted to steal her purse. The suspects then fled the area and were last seen heading southbound towards Washington Avenue. The victim, who authorities say was not a University of Minnesota student, was not seriously hurt and did not seek medical attention.

Authorities say they do not have a detailed description of the suspects at this time. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the University of Minnesota Police Department at (612) 624-2677.
