Police: Repair Shop Employees Were Speeding In Squad Cars

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Roseville Police Department says it's ending its dealings with a local body shop after employees allegedly drove marked squad cars too fast down a county road.

The department said it got complaints from citizens last Thursday morning, after the cars were seen speeding on County Road C, which has a 40 mph speed limit.

Police say they looked into the complaints immediately. They found the squad cars had been driven by repair shop employees, who had authorization to drive the squad cars from the city's public works garage to the shop.

A police administrator met with the body shop's owner, talked to him about the alleged speeding and then decided to end the business relationship.

Police say they also followed up with the people who made the complaints and informed them of the situation.

In the future, Roseville police say they'll use police officers or city employees to drive squad cars to repair shops.
