Police Pursuit Ends With Multiple Crashes In Andover, Suspect Arrested
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says a police pursuit ended in Andover Wednesday afternoon with multiple crashes and a burglary suspect arrested.
According to Cmdr. Paul Sommer, several people suffered minor injuries – including an officer – when a suspect collided with multiple vehicles near the intersection of Hanson Boulevard and Bunker Lake Boulevard.
The suspect, who was not injured, is now in custody. Officials identified him as 34-year-old Randy Thomas Vaught of St. Francis.
Officials say he led officers on a 12-mile pursuit, which started in Blaine. Police in that city said they got a call around 1 p.m. from a woman saying someone had broken into her home.
Vaught then allegedly drove away from the woman's home and led authorities on the high-speed chase on Highway 65 and then onto Bunker Lake Boulevard.
When Vaught got to the intersection of Bunker Lake and Hanson, he struck a pickup truck and a minivan head-on. The minivan was carrying a woman and infant inside.
Several officers then performed pit maneuvers to bring Vaught's car to a stop.
Hanson Boulevard was shut down for hours following the incident while authorities investigated and cleaned up the scene. The road opened shortly before 3:30 p.m.
The woman and her child, as well as the injured officer, were taken to a hospital for treatment. They were all released, having suffered minor injuries.
Vaught was being held in the Anoka County Jail pending formal charges.
